Presentation: Each modified-release tablet contains Gliclazide BP 60 mg. Available in strips.
Indications: Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not adequate to control blood sugar levels.
Dosage and Administration: Adults: The usual initial dose is 30 mg once daily. Dosage may be gradually increased to 60 mg or 120 mg once daily based on blood glucose levels. It should be taken orally once daily with breakfast. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew. Dosage adjustments should be made according to the patient's response and as directed by a physician.
Side Effects: Common side effects include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), weight gain, nausea, diarrhoea, and headache.
Precautions: Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for hypoglycemia, such as elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or those with impaired adrenal or pituitary function. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Kidney function should be monitored, and the drug is generally not recommended in severe renal impairment.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
