Presentation: Gluconor 1 is typically available as tablets, with each tablet containing 1 mg of Glimepiride.
Indications: Gluconor 1 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient. It may be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents, such as metformin, when adequate glycemic control is not achieved. It can also be used in combination with insulin.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Gluconor 1 is governed by the desired blood sugar level. The lowest effective dose to achieve metabolic control should be used.
Side Effects: The most frequent side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Possible symptoms include headache, intense hunger, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sleep disorders, agitation, aggression, poor concentration, reduced awareness, slowed reactions, depression, confusion, visual and speech disorders, tremor, paresis, sensory disorders, dizziness, and feeling of helplessness. Signs of adrenergic counter-regulation such as sweating, clammy skin, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, palpitations, and angina pectoris may also occur. Gastrointestinal disturbances like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, and constipation are uncommon. Skin reactions (rash, itching, hives) and rarely, changes in blood counts and liver function abnormalities may occur.
Precautions: Gluconor 1 is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for hypoglycemia, such as elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or those with impaired adrenal or pituitary function. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Certain medications can interact with glimepiride, potentially increasing or decreasing its blood sugar-lowering effect. Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
