Presentation: Tablets containing 80 mg gliclazide.

Indications: Indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The usual initial dose is 40 to 80 mg daily. The dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily, taken before a meal, as a single dose or in divided doses. Modified-release preparations are usually taken once daily at breakfast, with a usual dose of 30 to 120 mg. Dosage is determined by the physician based on blood glucose levels. Swallow tablets whole; do not chew or crush modified-release tablets.

Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation), headache, skin reactions (rash, itching), and visual disturbances, especially at the start of treatment. Rarely, changes in blood counts or liver function may occur.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, elderly patients, and those with a risk of hypoglycemia. Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential. Avoid or minimize alcohol consumption. Certain medications can interact with gliclazide, affecting blood glucose control. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally not recommended.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
