Glymin 500

Presentation:Each film-coated tablet contains 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride BP.

Indications:Glymin 500 is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.In adults, it may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin.In children from 10 years of age and adolescents,it may be used as monotherapy or in combination with insulin.  

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 500 mg twice a day or 850 mg once a day, given with meals. Dosage increases should be made in increments of 500 mg weekly or 850 mg every 2 weeks, up to a total of 2000 mg per day, given in divided doses. For those patients requiring additional glycemic control,the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 2550 mg per day, usually given three times a day with meals.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort.These are usually transient and occur at the start of therapy. A metallic taste may also occur.Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect.  

Precautions: Renal function should be assessed before initiating Glymin 500 and regularly thereafter. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min).Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, heart failure, and excessive alcohol intake.Temporary discontinuation may be needed for surgical procedures or iodinated contrast studies.  

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
