Glysup 4 

Presentation: Glysup 4 is presented as a suppository for rectal administration. Each suppository contains 4 grams of glycerin BP (British Pharmacopoeia). Indications: Glysup 4 is indicated for the relief of occasional constipation in individuals aged 6 years and above. Glycerin is a hyperosmotic laxative that works by drawing water into the bowel from surrounding tissues. This softens the stool mass and increases bowel action, typically resulting in a bowel movement within 15 minutes to 1 hour.

Dosage and Administration:

Adults and Children (from 6 years): Insert one Glysup 4 suppository well up into the rectum once per 24 hours, or as directed by a physician.

The suppository needs to melt completely to produce its laxative action. It should be inserted and retained for a few minutes to allow for proper action.

Side Effects: When used rectally, glycerin in Glysup 4 may cause local irritation, such as rectal discomfort or a burning sensation.

Precautions:

• Hypersensitivity to glycerin or any other ingredients in the suppository is a contraindication.
• Do not use Glysup 4 unless the patient is actually constipated.
• Caution should be taken in patients with conditions like hypervolemia, cardiac failure, or renal disease, as well as in dehydrated patients and individuals with diabetes mellitus.
• If rectal bleeding occurs or if there is no bowel movement after using the product, a doctor should be consulted.
• Prolonged or frequent use of laxatives may result in dependence and loss of normal bowel function.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: While glycerin suppositories are generally considered one of the safest laxatives and available without a prescription, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using Glysup 4. There are no controlled data on its use during human pregnancy, and it is classified as Pregnancy Category C.

Storage: Glysup 4 suppositories should be stored below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
