Presentation: Tablets containing Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride BP 2 mg. Available in strips or blister packs, with the number of tablets per pack determined by the manufacturing pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. Trihexyphenidyl is an anticholinergic medication primarily used to manage symptoms of Parkinsonism.

Indications: Hexinor (Trihexyphenidyl) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease, including the relief of tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia (slowness of movement). It is also used in the management of drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms such as dystonia, akathisia, and parkinsonism that may occur as side effects of certain antipsychotic medications.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Hexinor should be carefully individualized by a registered medical practitioner to achieve the optimal therapeutic effect with minimal side effects.

• Parkinson's Disease: Initial therapy typically begins with a low dose, such as 1 mg on the first day, followed by 2 mg daily in divided doses on the second day. The dosage is then gradually increased in increments of 2 mg every 3 to 5 days until a total daily dose of 6 to 10 mg is reached. The total daily dose is usually administered in three or four divided doses, preferably taken at mealtimes.
• Drug-induced Extrapyramidal Symptoms: The usual dosage range is between 5 to 15 mg daily, administered in divided doses. The specific dose and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the symptoms and the patient's response.

Hexinor tablets are for oral administration. Patients should adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and schedule. Abrupt discontinuation of the medication is not recommended and should be avoided.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Trihexyphenidyl's anticholinergic properties may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention (difficulty passing urine), and drowsiness. Other potential side effects can include increased heart rate, confusion, hallucinations, and memory impairment, particularly in elderly individuals. Patients should promptly report any persistent or bothersome side effects to their healthcare provider.

Precautions: Hexinor is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, obstructive diseases of the gastrointestinal tract or urinary bladder neck, and known hypersensitivity to trihexyphenidyl. Caution should be exercised in patients with prostatic hypertrophy, cardiac arrhythmias, hepatic or renal impairment, and a history of tardive dyskinesia. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to the anticholinergic side effects of this medication. Hexinor may impair mental alertness and physical coordination; therefore, patients should exercise caution while driving or operating machinery.

Storage: Store Hexinor 2 mg tablets in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
