Hexinor 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride.

Indications: Treatment of all forms of parkinsonism (e.g., idiopathic Parkinson's disease, postencephalitic parkinsonism, arteriosclerotic parkinsonism). Also used to control extrapyramidal disorders caused by central nervous system drugs such as phenothiazines.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage is highly individualized.

• Parkinsonism: The usual initial dose is 1 mg on the first day, increased by 2 mg at intervals of three to five days until a total of 6 to 10 mg is given daily. This total daily amount is usually administered in three divided doses at mealtimes.
• Drug-Induced Extrapyramidal Disorders: The size and frequency of the dose must be adjusted to the needs of the individual patient. The total daily dose usually ranges between 5 and 15 mg.

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Tablets should be taken orally.

Side Effects: Common side effects are those of anticholinergic drugs and may include dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, mild nausea, nervousness, and drowsiness. Less common side effects can include constipation, urinary hesitancy or retention, tachycardia (rapid heart rate), palpitations, and mydriasis (dilated pupils). Mental confusion and agitation may occur, especially in elderly patients or with high doses.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma (especially narrow-angle glaucoma), urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy, obstructive diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, tachycardia, or hypersensitivity to trihexyphenidyl. Use with caution in patients with hypertension, cardiac disease, or liver or kidney disorders. May impair mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of hazardous tasks such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle. Avoid alcohol.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
