Indelix SR is a sustained-release (SR) tablet containing Indapamide 1.5 mg. It is manufactured by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications:

Indelix SR is primarily used to lower blood pressure and is indicated for the treatment of:

• Essential Hypertension: High blood pressure of unknown cause.
• It is also indicated for the treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure.  

Pharmacology:  

Indapamide is an oral antihypertensive agent and a diuretic. It works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium in the kidney, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, which helps reduce blood volume and lower blood pressure. Its effects are sustained, and it is rapidly and totally absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak serum levels occurring around 12 hours after ingestion. The plasma elimination half-life is 14 to 24 hours (mean 18 hours).

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: The recommended dosage is one 1.5 mg tablet orally once daily, preferably in the morning.
• The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and should not be chewed.
• In more severe cases, it can be combined with other categories of antihypertensive agents.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Gastrointestinal issues
• Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia)
• Hypersensitivity reactions

Contraindications:

Indelix SR is contraindicated in individuals with:

• Known allergy to the drug or to sulfonamides.
• Renal failure.
• Serious liver disease, particularly hepatic encephalopathy.
• Hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood).

Precautions and Warnings:

• Use cautiously in patients with disturbed water/electrolyte balance, diabetes, gout, and kidney problems.
• Regular monitoring of plasma electrolyte levels (especially potassium) is crucial.
• It is not recommended for pregnant women.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

• Pregnancy: It is not recommended for pregnant women.
• Lactation: Mothers taking Indapamide should not breastfeed.

Drug Interactions:

• May interact with other antihypertensive drugs.
• May interact with norepinephrine.
• Should be used cautiously with other medications that affect water/electrolyte balance.

Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
