Infusol Plus IV 

Presentation: Sterile intravenous infusion solution containing Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in Water for Injections, typically 5% Dextrose and 0.9% Sodium Chloride, in a 1000 ml bag or bottle.

Ingredients: Dextrose Monohydrate equivalent to 5% Dextrose Anhydrous, Sodium Chloride BP 0.9%, in Water for Injections BP. Electrolyte concentrations: Sodium (Na+) approximately 154 mmol/L, Chloride (Cl-) approximately 154 mmol/L. Approximate osmolarity is 560 mOsmol/L. Caloric value is approximately 170 kcal/L.

Indications: Indicated for use when there is combined water and sodium depletion. It provides dextrose as a nutrient in an isotonic sodium chloride solution.It can be used for maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte, and carbohydrate in patients unable to take fluids and nutrients orally, such as in persistent vomiting, and during or after surgery, shock, or accidents.It may also be used as a source of isotonic Sodium Chloride or both.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage is variable and depends on the patient's clinical condition, age, body weight, fluid and electrolyte balance, and the physician's recommendations. It is administered intravenously, usually at a rate of 60-120 drops per minute, or as prescribed. Check the infusion set and solution before use.

Side Effects:Reactions may include febrile response, infection at the injection site, venous thrombosis or phlebitis extending from the site, extravasation, and hypervolemia.Reactions due to the solution may include electrolyte disturbances and hyperglycemia.

Precautions:Use with caution in patients with congestive heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary edema, impaired renal function, or pre-eclampsia due to the sodium chloride content.Monitor serum glucose carefully in diabetic patients; insulin may be needed.Discontinue infusion if rigor occurs. Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particles, or after the expiry date.Solutions containing dextrose may be contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products.
