Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 BP 200 IU (Cholecalciferol). Available in strips or boxes containing multiple tablets.
Indications: Ipical D is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease. It is also used as a calcium and Vitamin D3 supplement to ensure adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, during growth spurts in children and adolescents, and in elderly patients. Additionally, it serves as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure and is used during therapy with anti-seizure medications.
Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is two tablets daily, either as one tablet twice daily or as directed by a physician. It is recommended to take the tablets with or just after a meal to enhance calcium absorption. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. The dosage for children should be determined by a healthcare professional based on their age and specific needs.
Side Effects: Calcium supplements are generally well-tolerated. However, some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, or stomach upset. In rare cases, hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) may occur, especially with prolonged use of high doses. Symptoms of hypercalcemia may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination.
Precautions: Ipical D is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, renal calculi (kidney stones), nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease. Concurrent use with other medications such as digoxin, antacids containing calcium, aluminum or magnesium, other calcium supplements, calcitriolor other Vitamin D3 supplements, and certain antibiotics (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, oxytetracycline) may lead to interactions.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
