Isentin 5

Presentation: Each tablet of Isentin 5 contains 5 mg of linagliptin. Isentin 5 is available in blister packs containing a specific number of tablets.Please refer to the product packaging for exact details.

Indications:Isentin (linagliptin) is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control as:  

• Monotherapy:In patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and forwhom metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindicationsdue to renal impairment. 
• Combination Therapy:In combination with metformin when diet and exercise plus metformin alone do not provideadequate glycemic control.It can also be used in combination with a sulfonylurea and metformin when diet and exercise plus dual therapy with these medicinal products do not provide adequate glycemic control,and in combination with insulin with or without metformin when this regimen alone, with diet and exercise, does not provide adequateglycemic control.  

Dosage and Administration:The recommended dose ofIsentin is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food at any time of the day. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as the patient remembers. A double dose should not be taken on the same day.When Isentin is used in combination with a sulfonylurea or with insulin, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea or insulin may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.No dose adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.  

Side Effects:Common side effects reported with linagliptin include nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages) and cough.When used in combination with metformin and a sulfonylurea, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and pancreatitis have been reported.Other possible side effects include headache and allergic reactions.  

Precautions:Isentin should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.Caution is advised whenIsentin is used in combination with a sulfonylurea and/or insulin due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia; a dose reduction of the sulfonylurea or insulin may be considered. In post-marketing experience, acute pancreatitis has been reported; patients should be informed of the characteristic symptom of persistent, severe abdominal pain.A history of hypersensitivity reaction to linagliptin is a contraindication.  

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
