How Isoben Works (Pharmacology)
Isoben contains two types of active ingredients that work together to manage dry and pruritic skin:
- Antimicrobials (Benzalkonium Chloride and Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride):
- Help to combat bacteria on the skin that can worsen eczema.
- Prevent infection caused by scratching itchy skin.
- Emollients (Liquid Paraffin and Isopropyl Myristate):
- Soften, moisturize, and protect the skin by trapping moisture and restoring its normal protective function.
- Prevent skin-drying and irritant effects often caused by ordinary soaps, foaming additives, and fragrances used in cleansing products.
Isoben can be used in addition to other emollients or treatments prescribed by a doctor or pharmacist for dry skin conditions.
Dosage & Administration
For maximum benefit, use Isoben regularly and as often as required. Always consult a registered physician for medication use.
- Adults, Children, and the Elderly:
- For application to the skin: Apply the lotion/cream to the affected areas as required. Massage into the skin until absorbed. Do not rub vigorously. Reapply as often as required. If applying another treatment, apply alternately, leaving sufficient time for each product to soak in.
- For use as a soap substitute: Use this lotion/cream to wash with instead of ordinary soap or shower gel. It will not foam or lather. After washing, pat the skin dry with a soft towel (avoid rubbing).

- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, or any of the other ingredients.
Side Effects:
- Most people do not experience side effects.
- Stop using and seek urgent medical help if you experience signs of a serious allergic reaction (rare but possible): Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat; sudden uncharacteristic red itchy skin rash (hives) away from the application site; wheezing or breathing difficulty; feeling faint or dizzy; a strange metallic taste in the mouth; or collapse.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
- This product can be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
- Ingredients have been widely used for many years without reported problems, though specific safety trials have not been conducted.
Precautions & Warnings:
- Severe Allergic Reactions (Chlorhexidine): Very rare reports of severe generalized allergic reactions (e.g., drop in blood pressure, unconsciousness) have been associated with chlorhexidine-containing products in susceptible individuals.Do not use if you have had problems with chlorhexidine-containing products in the past.
