Presentation: Each tablet contains 25 mg of empagliflozin.

- As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control.
- To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adultpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
Dosage and Administration:
- The recommendedstarting dose of Jardian is 10 mg once daily.
- In patients tolerating empagliflozin who require additional glycemic control, the dose can be increased to 25 mg once daily.
- Jardian should be taken orally once daily in the morning, with or without food.
- In patients with volume depletion, correcting this condition prior to initiation of empagliflozin is recommended.
- Renal function should be assessed prior to initiation of Jardian and periodically thereafter. Jardian is not recommended in patients with an eGFR less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m².
Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with Jardian include:
- Urinary tract infections
- Female genital mycotic infections
Other common side effects may include:
- Increased urination
- Thirst
- Nausea
- Hypoglycemia (when used with insulin or sulfonylureas)
- Volume depletion
- Dizziness
Precautions:
- Jardian is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to empagliflozin or any of the excipients, severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or those on dialysis.
- Use of Jardian is not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
- Caution should be exercised when Jardian is used concomitantly with diuretics due to potential for increased diuresis.
- An increased risk of diabetic ketoacidosis has been reported with SGLT2 inhibitors, including empagliflozin. Patients should be educated on the signs and symptoms and risk factors.
- Rare cases of Fournier's gangrene (necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum) have been reported with SGLT2 inhibitors.
