Joinix Plus is a film-coated tablet containing a combination of two natural supplements: 

• Glucosamine Sulfate USP 250 mg
• Chondroitin Sulfate USP 200 mg

It is manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. 

Description and Pharmacology:

Joinix Plus is a balanced combination of Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which are fundamental components of healthy joint cartilage. 

• Glucosamine: A naturally occurring amino sugar that provides the basic raw material for the body to manufacture joint cartilage. It also stimulates chondrocytes (cartilage cells) to produce glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and proteoglycans, essential building blocks of articular cartilage. 
• Chondroitin Sulfate: Another naturally occurring mucopolysaccharide found in cartilage. It stimulates cartilage production, inhibits enzymes that break down cartilage, draws fluid into the cells, and helps lubricate the joints. 

When combined, Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate show a synergistic effect, working together to stimulate the production and regeneration of connective tissues like cartilage, bone, and tendons. This combination is effective in treating the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and may help slow disease progression. It is considered as effective as NSAIDs for osteoarthritic pain, with better tolerability. 

Indications:

Joinix Plus is indicated as a dietary supplement for the treatment of: 

• Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, spine, hand, and other joints. 
• It is also considered beneficial in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal soft tissue injuries (like tendon or ligament strains). 
• Some sources suggest benefits for migraine, certain skin problems (e.g., psoriasis), vascular complications (e.g., atherosclerosis), kidney stones, and inflammatory bowel disease. 

Dosage and Administration:

Joinix Plus tablets are taken orally. They are preferably taken with meals to minimize potential stomach upset. The dosage can be adjusted based on the individual's response and body weight. 

• For the 250 mg Glucosamine Sulfate + 200 mg Chondroitin Sulfate tablet:
  • 1 to 2 tablets, three times daily, or as directed by the physician. 
  • Doses can be tapered after 60 days as per individual requirement and for cost convenience. 

Typical daily dosage recommendations based on body weight (for total Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate intake from all sources):

• Under 54 Kg: 1000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 800 mg Chondroitin Sulfate per day. 
• 54 Kg to 91 Kg: 1500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 1200 mg Chondroitin Sulfate per day. 
• Over 91 Kg: 2000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 1600 mg Chondroitin Sulfate per day. 

Side Effects:

Both Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfates are generally considered safe with low toxicity. Side effects are rare and usually mild, often disappearing when the tablet is taken with meals. These can include: 

• Stomach upset 
• Nausea 
• Diarrhea 
• Constipation 
• Mild and reversible intestinal flatulence 
• Heartburn 

Contraindications:

There are no known contraindications for Glucosamine and Chondroitin, except for: 

• Proven hypersensitivity (allergy) to Glucosamine and Chondroitin (e.g., allergies to shellfish or sulfur, as Glucosamine is often derived from shellfish). 

Precautions and Warnings:

• Diabetics: Patients with Diabetes Mellitus are advised to monitor their blood glucose levels regularly while taking Glucosamine, as it may affect glucose tolerance. 
• Renal and/or Hepatic Insufficiency: No specific studies have been performed. While the toxicological and pharmacokinetic profiles do not indicate limitations, administration to patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency should be under appropriate medical supervision. 
• Children: Children should not be supplemented with Glucosamine and Chondroitin due to insufficient safety and efficacy data. 

Pregnancy and Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Women who are pregnant or who could become pregnant should not supplement with Glucosamine Sulfate or Chondroitin Sulfate. They have not been studied enough to determine their effects on a developing fetus. It should be taken with caution and medical advice during pregnancy. 
• Lactation: No studies have evaluated the use of Glucosamine and Chondroitin during lactation. It should be taken with caution and medical advice during breastfeeding. 

Drug Interactions:

• There have been no reports of significant drug interactions of Glucosamine with antibiotics, antidepressants, antihypertensives, nitrates, antiarrhythmics, anxiolytics, hypoglycemic agents, or anti-secretives. 
• Chondroitin may enhance the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulants like Warfarin and Heparin. Patients taking blood thinners should consult their doctor. 

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
