Labcal D
Presentation: Tablets containing a combination of calcium (usually as calcium carbonate) and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). The strengths of calcium and Vitamin D3 may vary depending on the formulation.
Indications: Prevention and treatment of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. Indicated in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and rickets. May also be used as a supplement to ensure adequate intake of calcium and Vitamin D, especially in the elderly or those with limited sun exposure or dietary restrictions.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the strength of the tablet and the individual's needs. Typically, adults take one or two tablets daily, or as directed by a physician. It is often recommended to take Labcal D with or after a meal to enhance calcium absorption.
Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated when taken as directed. High doses may lead to hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood), which can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, and weakness. In rare cases, it may lead to kidney problems.
Precautions: Use with caution in individuals with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine), kidney stones, or kidney disease. Consult a physician before use if you have hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis, or are taking other medications, especially cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin) or thiazide diuretics, as interactions may occur.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
