Lamitrin 5 Tablet - (5mg Lamotrigine)

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg of Lamotrigine. 

Indications: Lamitrin is an antiepileptic drug used to treat certain types of epilepsy in adults and children (over 2 years), including partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and generalized seizures of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. It is also used as a mood stabilizer in adults (over 18 years) with bipolar disorder, helping to prevent extreme mood swings, particularly depressive episodes.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Lamitrin 5 is highly individualized and requires gradual titration, especially at the start, to minimize the risk of rash. Your doctor will determine the appropriate starting dose and the rate of increase based on your condition, age, and other medications you may be taking. Lamitrin tablets can be swallowed whole, chewed, or dispersed in water. It can be taken with or without food. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions precisely and not to change the dose or stop taking the medication without their guidance.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include skin rash, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, blurred or double vision, and difficulty sleeping. A serious but rare side effect is a severe skin rash, which can be life-threatening. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash, especially with fever, swollen lymph nodes, or flu-like symptoms. Other serious side effects can include suicidal thoughts or actions, unusual changes in mood or behavior, and signs of allergic reactions.

Precautions: Inform your doctor about any allergies, kidney or liver problems, heart conditions, history of mood disorders or suicidal thoughts. Lamotrigine can interact with other medications, including hormonal birth control, other antiepileptic drugs, and certain mood stabilizers. Women using hormonal contraceptives may need dose adjustments. Avoid alcohol while taking Lamitrin as it can increase drowsiness.
