Presentation: Lansec is a brand name for Lansoprazole, available as enteric-coated capsules in strengths of 15 mg and 30 mg.

Indications: Lansec (Lansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders, including:

  • Short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer.  
  • Maintenance of healed duodenal ulcers.  
  • Short-term treatment of active benign gastric ulcer.  
  • Short-term treatment of symptomaticgastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
  • Short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis.
  • Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis.  
  • Treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions, including Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.  
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence (usually in combination with antibiotics).

Dosage and Administration: Lansec capsules should be swallowed whole and taken before meals, preferably in the morning. Do not chew or crush the capsules. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the physician's instructions.

  • Duodenal Ulcer: 30 mg once daily in the morning for 4 weeks. For maintenance, 15 mg once daily.
  • Gastric Ulcer: 30 mg once daily in the morning for 8 weeks.
  • Erosive Esophagitis: 30 mg once daily in the morning for up to 8 weeks. For maintenance, 15-30 mg once daily.
  • Symptomatic GERD: 15-30 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks.
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Starting dose is 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on acid secretion.
  • H. pylori Eradication: 30 mg twice daily in combination with specific antibiotics for one week.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and constipation. Less common side effects can include dizziness, dry mouth, and skin rash. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency in some individuals.

Precautions: Lansec (Lansoprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lansoprazole or any other components of the formulation. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Lansoprazole can interact with several other medications.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Lansoprazole should be avoided during pregnancy unless there are compelling reasons. It is not known whether lansoprazole is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering to breastfeeding women.

Storage: Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
