Latuda 40 Tablet

Presentation: Each tablet contains 40 mg of lurasidone hydrochloride. These are typically white to yellowish-white tablets.

Indications: Latuda is used to treat schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (13-17 years). It also treats depressive episodes linked to Bipolar I Disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children (10-17 years for monotherapy), either alone or with lithium or valproate.

Dosage and Administration: For schizophrenia in adults, the usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily, with a possible range of 40 to 160 mg. Adolescents start at 40 mg once daily, with a range of 40 to 80 mg. For bipolar depression, adults usually start at 20 mg once daily, with a range of 20 to 120 mg, either alone or with other medications. Children with bipolar depression start at 20 mg once daily, with a range of 20 to 80 mg as monotherapy.

Take Latuda with food (at least 350 calories) for proper absorption. Dosage adjustments are made by your doctor based on your response.

Side Effects: Common side effects include sleepiness, restlessness (akathisia), muscle stiffness or slow movements, and nausea. Other possible effects are weight gain, increased appetite, dizziness, anxiety, and trouble sleeping.

Precautions: Inform your doctor about any heart, liver, kidney issues, diabetes, high cholesterol, seizures, or suicidal thoughts. Latuda may increase suicidal thoughts in young adults. It can also cause uncontrolled muscle movements (tardive dyskinesia) and a rare but serious reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Avoid grapefruit. Be cautious when driving due to potential drowsiness. Discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding with your doctor.

Storage: Store below 30°C (86°F), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
