Laxpru 1
Presentation: Each tablet of Laxpru 1 contains Prucalopride Succinate INN equivalent to Prucalopride 1 mg. Laxpru 1 is a brand name marketed by Team Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. It is usually available in blister packs containing strips of tablets.
Indications: Laxpru tablet is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of chronic constipation in adults in whom laxatives fail to provide adequate relief.
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose for adults is 2 mg once daily with or without food, at any time of the day. However, the information available indicates that Laxpru 1 contains 1 mg of Prucalopride. If a 1 mg tablet is being used, the usual recommended starting dose for adults is 1 mg once daily, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if needed and tolerated.
The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day. Exceeding the daily dose of 2 mg is not expected to increase efficacy.
Side Effects: The most commonly reported side effects with Prucalopride (the active ingredient in Laxpru) include:
These side effects are usually mild to moderate and are more common at the beginning of treatment, typically subsiding within a few days of continued treatment. Less common side effects may include tremors, increased frequency of passing urine, feeling unwell, and fever. Rare but potentially serious side effects include rectal bleeding and fast or pounding heartbeat.
Precautions: Laxpru (Prucalopride) is contraindicated in patients with:
Caution should be exercised when prescribing Laxpru to patients with severe hepatic impairment and those with a history of cardiac arrhythmia or ischaemic cardiovascular disease, although prucalopride is designed to have minimal cardiovascular risk. If severe diarrhoea occurs, the efficacy of oral contraceptives may be reduced, and additional contraceptive measures are recommended. The tablets contain lactose, so patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.Prucalopride is not recommended during pregnancy, and women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding due to a lack of human data.
Storage: Store below 30°C at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
