Leptic ODT 0.5
Presentation: Each orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) contains 0.5 mg of Clonazepam.
Indications: Leptic ODT is indicated for the treatment of:
- Seizure disorders, especially absence seizures (petit mal), akinetic, and myoclonic seizures. It may also be used for generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
- Panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia.
- Insomnia (sometimes).
The orally disintegrating tablet formulation dissolves quickly in the mouth, making it easier to take.
Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and determined by the physician based on the condition, age, and response.
- Adults with Seizure Disorders: The initial dose should not exceed 1.5 mg/day, divided into three doses, and gradually increased. The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg.
- Adults with Panic Disorder: The initial dose is 0.25 mg twice daily, which may be increased to a target dose of 1 mg/day after three days. The maximum dose is 4 mg/day.
- Children: Dosage is weight-based and should be determined by the physician.
- The tablet should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve. It can be taken with or without water.
Side Effects: Common side effects are related to central nervous system depression and may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Impaired coordination
- Depression
Less common side effects can include confusion, ataxia, and behavioral problems.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor about any history of allergies to benzodiazepines, liver disease, or acute narrow-angle glaucoma.
- Use with caution in patients with respiratory problems, kidney dysfunction, and in elderly or debilitated patients.
- Leptic ODT may cause drowsiness and dizziness; avoid activities requiring mental alertness until the effects are known.
- Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, as it can increase drowsiness and other side effects.
- Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms or increased seizure frequency.
- Inform your doctor if you experience any unusual changes in mood or suicidal thoughts.
- The addiction/habit-forming potential of this medicine is very high; take it only as prescribed.
- Use during pregnancy should be avoided unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
