Levefix 500 

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Levetiracetam BP 500 mg. Available in strips or blister packs.

Indications: Levefix 500 mg is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of:

• Partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and children from 4 years of age with epilepsy.
• Myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy.
• Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy.

Dosage and Administration: Levetiracetam is administered orally with or without food. The dose should be divided into two equally divided doses per day.

• Adults and adolescents (16 years and above): The initial therapeutic dose is 500 mg twice daily (1000 mg total daily dose). The dose can be increased every 2 weeks by 500 mg twice daily to a maximum recommended daily dose of 3000 mg.
• Adolescents (12-17 years) weighing ≥50 kg: Dosage is the same as in adults.
• Children (4-11 years) and adolescents (12-17 years) weighing <50 kg: The starting dose is 10 mg/kg twice daily. The dose can be increased every 2 weeks by 10 mg/kg twice daily to a maximum recommended daily dose of 30 mg/kg twice daily.

Dosage adjustments are recommended in patients with renal impairment. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Very common side effects include somnolence, headache. Common side effects include nasopharyngitis, anorexia, depression, asthenia/fatigue, dizziness.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with renal impairment (dosage adjustment may be needed). May cause central nervous system depression; advise patients not to drive or operate hazardous machinery until they are reasonably certain that levetiracetam does not affect their ability to engage in such activities. Withdrawal should be gradual to minimize the risk of increased seizure frequency. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
