Levipil 250 

Presentation:Levipil 250 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, contains Levetiracetam 250 mg. 

Indications: Levipil is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of:  

• Partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and children from 4 years of age with epilepsy. 
• Myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. 
• Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adultsand children from 6 years of age with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy.It can also be used as monotherapy in certain cases of partial-onset seizures in patients from 16 years of age with newly diagnosed epilepsy.  

Dosage and Administration: Levipil should be taken as prescribed by the physician. The usual starting dose for adults and adolescents (16 years and older) is 500 mg twice daily.This dose can be increased every 2 weeks by 500 mg twice daily to a maximum daily dose of 3000 mg (1500 mg twice daily).

For children (4 to 15 years), the dose is weight-based and will be determined by the doctor.  

• Levipil tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of liquid.It can be taken with or without food. 
• It is important to take Levipil at the same time each day. 
• Do not stop taking Levipil suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may increase the frequency of seizures.The dose should be gradually reduced if discontinuation is necessary.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include somnolence (sleepiness), headache, dizziness, fatigue, and nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nose and throat).Behavioral changes such as irritability, agitation, depression, and aggression can also occur, particularly in children.Other less common side effects may include anorexia (loss of appetite), nausea, vomiting, and tremor.

Precautions:Levipil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or other pyrrolidone derivatives.Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• Renal impairment: The dose may need to be adjusted based on kidney function.
• Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is usually needed for mild to moderate liver impairment.
• History of depression or suicidal thoughts: Levetiracetam may worsen these conditions, and patients should be monitored closely. 
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Levipil should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Storage:Store Levipil 250 tablets in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
