Ligazid 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg of linagliptin.

Indications: Ligazid is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control:  

• As monotherapy:In patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and forwhom metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindicationdue to renal impairment.
• As combination therapy: In combination with other glucose-lowering medicinal products including metformin, sulfonylurea, or insulin when these, along with diet and exercise, do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Ligazid is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food at any time of the day.

• When added to metformin, the dose of metformin should be maintained.
• When used in combination with a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.  
• No dose adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment or hepatic impairment.

Side Effects:

• Common: Nasopharyngitis.
• Uncommon: Hypoglycemia (when used in combination with sulfonylurea or insulin), cough.
• Rare: Pancreatitis, hypersensitivity reactions (including rash, urticaria, angioedema).

Precautions:

• Ligazid is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to linagliptin or any of the excipients.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis.
• When Ligazid is used in combination with a sulfonylurea or insulin, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea or insulin may be considered to reduce the riskof hypoglycemia.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
