Liglimet 500     

Presentation: Liglimet 500 tablets contain 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride.

Indications:Liglimet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with bothlinagliptin and metformin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosageof Liglimet should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen. It is usually taken twice daily with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.

• For patients not currently treated with metformin:The starting dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin/500 mg metformin hydrochloride twice daily.Your doctor may adjust this based on your response.
• For patients already treated with metformin:The starting dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin added to their current metformin dose, taken twice daily.The maximum recommended daily dose is 5 mg of linagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin hydrochloride.Renal function should be assessed before initiating Liglimet and periodically thereafter.Liglimet is contraindicated in patients with an eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m².

Side Effects:Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, headache, and nasopharyngitis.Hypoglycemia may occur when Liglimet is used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Pancreatitis has been reported with linagliptin.  

Precautions:Liglimet is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to linagliptin, metformin, or any of the excipients.It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Assess renal function before initiation and monitor periodically. Avoid excessive alcohol intake. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
