Lijenta-M 1000

Presentation:Each film-coated tablet of Lijenta-M 1000 contains 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin hydrochloride.

Indications:Lijenta-M is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both linagliptin and metforminis appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Lijenta-M should be individualized on the basis of both effectiveness and tolerability.The maximum recommended dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin and 1000 mg metformin hydrochloride twice daily with meals. However, the 2.5 mg/1000 mg tablet is usually taken once daily. For patients not currently treated with metformin, the usual starting dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride twice daily. For patients already on metformin, the starting dose of Lijenta-M should provide 2.5 mg linagliptin twice daily and continue the current metformin dose. Dose escalation should be gradual to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.  

Side Effects:Common side effects may include nasopharyngitis and diarrhea.Hypoglycemia may occur more commonly when this combination is used with sulfonylureas.Other possible side effects may include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort.Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect associated with metformin.  

Precautions:Lijenta-M is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to linagliptin or metformin.Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal impairment and hepatic impairment. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Renal function should be assessed before initiating Lijenta-M and regularly thereafter.

Storage:Store below 30°C, protected from moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
