Lijenta-M 850     

Presentation:Lijenta-M 850 tablets contain 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 850 mg of metformin hydrochloride.They are typically film-coated and available in blister packs.

Indications:Lijenta-M is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus whentreatment with both linagliptin and metformin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Lijenta-M should be individualizedbased on the patient's current regimen. It is usually taken twice daily with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.  

• For patients not currently treated with metformin: The starting dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin/500 mg metformin hydrochloride twice daily. Your doctor may adjust this based on your response.
• For patients already treated with metformin 850 mg twice daily:The starting dose is 2.5 mg linagliptin added to their current metformin dose, taken twice daily.  
• For patients already treated with metformin 1000 mg twice daily: It is not recommended to initiate with Lijenta-M. The maximum recommended daily dose is 5 mg of linagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin hydrochloride. Renal function should be assessed before initiating Lijenta-M and periodically thereafter. Lijenta-M is contraindicated in patients with an eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m².  

Side Effects:Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, headache, and nasopharyngitis.Hypoglycemia may occur when Lijenta-M is used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas.Pancreatitis has been reported with linagliptin.  

Precautions:Lijenta-M is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to linagliptin, metformin, or any of the excipients.It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Assess renal function before initiation and monitor periodically. Avoid excessive alcohol intake. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
