Limaryl 1 

Presentation: Limaryl 1 Tablet contains Glimepiride USP 1 mg as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Limaryl is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose in adults with non-insulin-dependent (Type 2) diabetes mellitus whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone.It may be used concomitantly with metformin when diet, exercise, and either Limaryl or metformin alone do not result in adequate glycemic control. Limaryl is also indicated for use in combination with insulin to lower blood glucose in patients whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet and exercise in conjunction with an oralhypoglycemic agent.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Limaryl is governed by the desired blood sugar level. The lowest dose sufficient to achieve the desired metabolic control should be used. The usual initial dose is 1 mg once daily, taken immediately before a substantial breakfast or the first main meal of the day. If necessary, the daily dose can be increased gradually based on regular blood glucose monitoring, usually at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks, and carried out stepwise (1 mg -> 2 mg -> 3 mg -> 4 mg -> 6 mg). The usual dose range in patients with well-controlled diabetes is 1 to 4 mg daily. The timing and distribution of doses are decided by the physician, considering the patient's lifestyle.

Side Effects: The most common side effect of Limaryl is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the risk of which may be increased in the initial weeks of treatment and when used with other antidiabetic agents or alcohol. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include sweating, tremor, anxiety, confusion, dizziness, and palpitations. Other possible side effects include temporary visual impairment, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, urticaria (hives), and a fall in blood pressure.

Precautions: Limaryl is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, other sulfonamides, or any of the excipients, as well as in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis with or without coma, severe impairment of renal function, and severe hepatic dysfunction. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding; a changeover to insulin may be necessary. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function and in elderly or debilitated patients who may be more susceptible to hypoglycemia. Alcohol consumption should be avoided or minimized.

Storage: Store Limaryl 1 tablets below 30°C. Keep away from light and out of the reach of children.
