Linadi 5

Presentation: Tablets containing 5 mg linagliptin.

Indications: Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, including metformin, sulfonylureas, or thiazolidinediones.  

Dosage and Administration:   The recommended dose is 5 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food. No dosage adjustment is required based on renal function in patients with mild, moderate, or severe renal impairment or in patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Follow physician's instructions.

Side Effects: Linagliptin is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include nasopharyngitis (common cold), and hyperuricemia (increased uric acid levels). Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur when linagliptin is used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) has been reported rarely.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Patients should be informed of the characteristic symptom of acute pancreatitis. If pancreatitis is suspected, linagliptin should be discontinued. Hypoglycemia may occur when used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas); a lower dose of the insulin secretagogue may be considered. There is limited experience in patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class III-IV heart failure.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
