Linarol 5

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg of linagliptin.

Indications:Linarol 5 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.It can be used:  

• As monotherapyin patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to contraindications or intolerance.  
• In combination with other glucose-lowering agents, including metformin, sulfonylureas, or thiazolidinediones, when diet and exercise plus the single agent do not provide adequate glycemic control.  
• In combination with insulin (with or without metformin) when diet and exercise plusinsulin do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration:The recommended dose of Linarol 5 is 5 mg once daily.It can be taken orally with or without food at any time of the day.  

• Monotherapy and Combination Therapy:The dose of 5 mg once daily is applicable when Linarol 5 is used as monotherapy or in combination with other glucose-lowering agents (metformin, sulfonylureas, or thiazolidinediones) or insulin.  
• Renal Impairment:No dosage adjustment of Linarol 5 is required for patients with renal impairment, including those with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.  
• Hepatic Impairment:No dosage adjustment of Linarol 5 is required for patients with hepatic impairment.  
• Elderly:No dosage adjustment of Linarol 5 is required based on age.However, clinical experience in patients over 75 years is limited.

Side Effects:Common adverse reactions may include nasopharyngitis.When linagliptin is used in combination with sulfonylureas, hypoglycemia may occur.  

Less common but potentially serious side effects may include pancreatitis and hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., rash, urticaria, angioedema).

Precautions:Linarol 5 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.  

Pancreatitis has been reported with DPP-4 inhibitors, including linagliptin. Patients should be informed of the characteristic symptoms of acute pancreatitis (persistent, severe abdominal pain). If pancreatitis is suspected,Linarol 5 should be discontinued.

When Linarol 5 is used in combination with a sulfonylurea or insulin, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea or insulin may be considered to reduce the riskof hypoglycemia.

Severe joint pain (arthralgia) has been reported with DPP-4 inhibitors.  

Bullous pemphigoid has been reported in patients taking DPP-4 inhibitors.If bullous pemphigoid develops, Linarol 5 should be discontinued.

Inform healthcare professionals regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding status before starting treatment with Linarol 5. Use during pregnancy is not recommended unless clearly needed. It is not known whether linagliptin is excreted in human milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importanceof the drug to the mother.  

Storage:   Store at room temperature (15°C to 30°C), protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
