Linastar 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg of linagliptin. The tablets are typically film-coated and may have specific markings depending on the manufacturer, Orion Pharma Ltd. Available in blister packs.

Indications:Linastar (linagliptin) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycemic control.It can be used as monotherapy in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications.It can also be used in combination with other glucose-lowering agents, including metformin and sulfonylureas.  

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is 5 mg taken orally once daily. It can be taken with or without food at any time of the day. No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment. When added to metformin, the metformin dose should be maintained. When used in combination with a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages) and cough. When used in combination with metformin and a sulfonylurea, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur. Other possible side effects include hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia (when used with pioglitazone or sulfonylurea, respectively) and pancreatitis.

Precautions:Linastar is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to linagliptin or any of the excipients.Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Monitor for signs and symptoms of pancreatitis. When used in combination with insulin or a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of insulin or sulfonylurea may be required to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. The use of Linastar during pregnancy should only be considered if clearly needed. It is not known if linagliptin passes into breast milk.

Storage:Store in a dry place away from light and heat.Keep out of reach of children.
