Linatab E 5/10

Presentation: Each tablet of Linatab E 5/10 contains 5 mg of linagliptin and 10 mg of empagliflozin.

Indications: Linatab E is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both linagliptin and empagliflozin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Linatab E is one tablet (5 mg linagliptin/10 mg empagliflozin) once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food. The dose may be increased to one tablet of Linatab E 5/25 mg once daily in patients who need additional glycemic control and tolerate the 10 mg dose of empagliflozin. Renal function should be assessed before initiating Linatab E and periodically thereafter. Linatab E is not recommended in patients with an eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73 m² and should be discontinued if eGFR falls persistently below this level.

Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with Linatab E include urinary tract infections, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), and upper respiratory tract infections. Other possible side effects may include increased urination, genital mycotic infections, thirst, nausea, and hypoglycemia (when used with insulin or sulfonylureas).

Precautions: Linatab E is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis, and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to linagliptin or empagliflozin. It is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Pancreatitis has been reported in patients treated with linagliptin; if pancreatitis is suspected, Linatab E should be promptly discontinued. Before initiating Linatab E, assess and correct volume status in patients who may be volume-depleted. Monitor for signs and symptoms of heart failure during therapy. An increased risk of diabetic ketoacidosis has been reported with SGLT2 inhibitors, including empagliflozin. Rare cases of Fournier's gangrene (necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum) have been reported with SGLT2 inhibitors.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
