Linatab M 2.5/1000

Presentation: Each film-coated extended-release tablet contains linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg.

Indications: Linatab M ER is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus whentreatment with both linagliptin and metformin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosageshould be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommendeddaily dose of linagliptin 5 mg and metformin 2000 mg. It should be taken orally once daily with a meal, preferably in the morning. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, split, or chewed. The recommended starting dose in patients not currently treated with metformin is one tablet once daily. In patients already treated with metformin, the starting dose should provide the same total daily dose of metformin, with the addition of linagliptin 5 mg once daily. Patients using Linatab M 2.5/1000 ER may need to take two tablets together once daily to achieve the 5 mg daily dose of linagliptin.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include diarrhea and nasopharyngitis. Hypoglycemia may occur when Linatab M ER is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas) or insulin. Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect associated with metformin. Pancreatitis has been reported in some patients receiving linagliptin.

Precautions: Renal function should be assessed before initiating Linatab M ER and periodically thereafter. Use is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min). Caution is advised in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Hepatic impairment, heart failure, and excessive alcohol intake are also important considerations.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
