Linax Plus 500 

Presentation:Linax Plus 500 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, is a combination tablet containing Linagliptin 2.5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg.

Indications:Linax Plus is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus  when treatment with both linagliptin and metformin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration:Therecommended dose of Linax Plus 500 is twice daily with meals. The dosage should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, with a maximum recommended daily dose of linagliptin 5 mg and metformin hydrochloride 2000 mg.

• For patients not currently treated with metformin:Initiate treatment with one tablet of Linax Plus 500 (linagliptin 2.5 mg/metformin hydrochloride 500 mg) twice daily.  
• For patients already treated with metformin: Start with one tablet of Linax Plus 500 twice daily, maintaining the same total daily dose of metformin.
• Patients already treated with linagliptin and metformin as separate tablets may be switched to Linax Plus containing the same doses of each component.  
• Dose escalation should be gradual to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, and headache (due to metformin), as well as stuffy or runny nose and sore throat (due to linagliptin).Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur when Linax Plus is used in combination with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas. Pancreatitis has also been reported.  

Precautions:Linax Plus is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute or chronic metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), or a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to linagliptin or metformin.It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal impairment, a history of pancreatitis, heart failure, liver disease, and excessive alcohol intake due to the risk of lactic acidosis associated with metformin.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
