Linera 

Presentation: Each tablet typically contains Linagliptin INN 5 mg. It is available in strips.

Indications: Linera is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycemic control. It can be used:

• As monotherapy:In patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindication. 
• As combination therapy: In combination with other antidiabetic medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or both, when diet and exercise plus the single or dual therapy do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Linera is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. A double dose should not be taken on the same day. No dose adjustment is required for patients with renal or hepatic impairment. When Linera is added to metformin, the metformin dose should be continued without change. When used with a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of the sulfonylurea may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Linera when used alone may include nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages) and cough. When used in combination with other diabetes medications, the side effects may differ:

• With metformin and sulfonylurea: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nasopharyngitis, cough, and pancreatitis have been reported.
• With metformin: Hypoglycemia and nasopharyngitis have been reported.
• With sulfonylurea: Hypoglycemia and headache have been reported.

Less common side effects may include allergic reactions and muscle pain. Rare side effects include pancreatitis, angioedema, and urticaria.

Precautions: Linera is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to linagliptin or any of the excipients. Caution should be exercised when Linera is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (like sulfonylureas) or insulin, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. A lower dose of the insulin secretagogue or insulin may be considered. There have been no conclusive studies showing a reduction in macrovascular risk with Linera.

Storage: Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
