Linzela 290 

Presentation: Each hard capsule of Linzela 290 contains 290 micrograms of Linaclotide as the active ingredient. Linzela 290 is a product of Nuvista Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Linzela (Linaclotide) is indicated in adults for the treatment of:  

• Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C)  
• Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC)  

Linaclotide isa guanylate cyclase-C agonist that works locally in the gut to reduce pain and bloating associated with IBS-C and to increase fluid secretion, which softens stools and promotes more frequent bowel movements in both IBS-C and CIC.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dosage of Linzela for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C) in adults is one 290 mcg capsule orally once daily.

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) in adults, the recommended dosage is one 145 mcg capsule orally once daily. A 72 mcg capsule once daily may be used based on individual presentation or tolerability. Linzela 290 is typically used for IBS-C.

Linzela should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day, at approximately the same time each day. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed, or opened. If a dose is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time.  

Side Effects: The most common side effect of Linzela is diarrhoea, which is sometimes severe. Other common side effects may include:

• Abdominal pain
• Flatulence (gas)
• Bloating
• Headache
• Viral gastroenteritis
• Dizziness

Less common side effects may include dehydration, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, and increased frequency of bowel movements. If diarrhoea becomes severe or persistent, patients should contact their doctor.

Precautions: Linzela (Linaclotide) is contraindicated in:  

• Patients less than 6 years of age due to the risk of serious dehydration.  
• Patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.  
• Patients with known hypersensitivity to linaclotide or any of the excipients.

Caution should be exercised in prescribing Linzela to elderly patients as there is limited data in this population. If symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks of treatment, a doctor should be consulted.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: There is limited data on the use of Linaclotide in pregnant women. Linzela should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. It is not knownif Linaclotide is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Linzela to a breastfeeding woman.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed to protect from moisture. The bottle contains one or more sealed canisters of silica gel desiccant, which should be kept in the bottle and not swallowed. Use the capsules within 18 weeks after the bottle is first opened. Keep out of reach of children.
