Lit 15

Presentation: Each tablet of Lit 15 contains 15 mg of pioglitazone.

Indications: Lit (pioglitazone) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetesmellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combinationwith sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin when diet and exercise plus a single agent do not result in adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. The dose may be increased gradually up to 45 mg once daily based on glycemic response. The maximum recommended daily dose is 45 mg. Lit 15 can be taken once a day without regard to meals. Dosage should be individualized and guided by blood glucose monitoring.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include upper respiratory tract infection, headache, sinusitis, myalgia (muscle pain), and pharyngitis. Other possible side effects include edema (swelling), weight gain, hypoglycemia (when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas), and blurred vision.

Precautions: Lit 15 is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any of its components, type 1 diabetes mellitus, or diabetic ketoacidosis. It should not be used in patients with symptomatic heart failure or a history of heart failure. Caution should be exercised in patients with liver disease, and liver enzymes should be monitored periodically. Fluid retention and edema may occur or be exacerbated in some patients. The risk of bone fracture may be increased in women.

Storage: Store at 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
