Liverty 10
Presentation: Each Liverty 10 tablet contains Obeticholic Acid 10 mg. Liverty is a brand name marketed by Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. It is usually available in blister packs.
Indications: Liverty (Obeticholic Acid) is indicated for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) in adult patients:
Dosage and Administration: The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily for the first 3 months. If after 3 months of treatment with 5 mg once daily, an adequate biochemical response (e.g., reduction in ALP and/or bilirubin) has not been achieved and the patient is tolerating the medication, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 10 mg once daily. Liverty tablets can be taken with or without food. In patients with intolerable pruritus, the dose may be reduced.
Side Effects: The most common side effects of Liverty include pruritus (itching), fatigue, and abdominal pain or discomfort. Other common side effects may include rash, joint pain, pain in the throat, constipation, abnormal thyroid function, dizziness, and eczema. Severe pruritus may require management with antihistamines, bile acid-binding resins, dose reduction, or temporary interruption of therapy. Liverty may also cause a reduction in HDL-C levels.
Precautions: Liverty is contraindicated in patients with:
Use with caution in patients with a history of severe pruritus. Monitor liver function tests regularly during treatment. Separate the dosing of Liverty by 4 hours from bile acid-binding resins (e.g., cholestyramine).
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: There is limited data on the use of obeticholic acid in pregnant women. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to reproductivetoxicity. Liverty should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whetherobeticholic acid is excreted in human milk. A risk to the breastfed infant cannot be excluded. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
