Lonapam 0.5

Presentation: Each tablet contains Clonazepam 0.5 mg.

Indications: Lonapam is indicated for the treatment of:  

• Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures. 
• Absence seizures (petit mal) unresponsive to succinimides. 
• Infantile spasms (West syndrome).
• Panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia.
• Certain types of anxiety disorders.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage is highly individualized and determined by the physician based on the patient's response and tolerability.

• Seizure Disorders:
  • Adults: Initial dose is usually 0.5 mg three times daily. The dose may be increased by 0.5 to 1 mg every 3 days until seizures are adequately controlled or side effects preclude further increase. Maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg.
  • Children: Initial dose is 0.01 to 0.03 mg/kg/day given in two or three divided doses. The dose may be increased by 0.25 to 0.5 mg every 3 days until a maintenance daily dose of 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg is reached.
• Panic Disorder: Initial dose is 0.25 mg twice daily. The dose may be increased to a target dose of 1 mg/day after 3 days. Further dosage increases may be made in increments of 0.125 to 0.25 mg twice daily every 3 days until panic disorder is controlled or side effects become intolerable. Maximum daily dose is usually 4 mg.

Lonapam tablets are administered orally. It is important to follow the physician's instructions precisely regarding the dosage schedule and any adjustments.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include drowsiness, ataxia (lack of coordination), fatigue, and muscle weakness. Less common side effects can include dizziness, confusion, irritability, depression, memory impairment, and dysarthria (slurred speech). Prolonged use may lead to dependence.

Precautions: Inform your physician if you have a history of substance abuse, liver or kidney disease, glaucoma, or breathing problems. Use caution with alcohol and other central nervous system depressants, as they can enhance the sedative effects of clonazepam. Lonapam may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms, including seizures. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Clonazepam is a controlled substance and has a potential for dependence.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
