Lonapam 2

Presentation: Each tablet contains Clonazepam BP 2 mg.

Indications: Lonapam (Clonazepam) is indicated for the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures. It may also be used in the treatment of absence seizures (petit mal) unresponsive to succinimides, infantile spasms (West syndrome), panic disorder, and certain anxiety disorders.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the specific condition, severity of symptoms, and patient response.

• Seizure Disorders:
  • Adults: Initial dose is typically 0.5 mg three times daily. Dosage may be increased gradually. Maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg.
  • Children: Initial dose is usually 0.01 to 0.03 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Maintenance dose is typically 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg/day.
• Panic Disorder: Initial adult dose is 0.25 mg twice daily, which may be increased gradually to a target maintenance dose.

Lonapam tablets are administered orally and can be taken with or without food. Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms.

Side Effects: Common adverse reactions may include drowsiness, ataxia (lack of coordination), fatigue, and muscle weakness. Other potential side effects include dizziness, confusion, irritability, depression, memory impairment, and dysarthria.

Precautions: Lonapam is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines and in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma. Caution should be exercised in patients with respiratory depression, severe hepatic impairment, and a history of drug abuse or dependence. It may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Use with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided. Potential for dependence exists. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
