Lopesim 

Presentation: Each tablet of Lopesim contains Loperamide Hydrochloride BP 2 mg and Simethicone BP 125 mg.

Indications: Lopesim is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and adolescents over 12 years when acute diarrhoea is associated with gas-related abdominal discomfort including bloating, cramping or flatulence.  

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and children 12 years of age and older: 2 tablets initially, followed by 1 tablet after each subsequent loose bowel movement, up to a maximum of 4 tablets per day for no more than 2 days.
• Children 6-11 years of age: This product is not recommended for children under 12 years of age except on the advice of a physician. The proposed dose that may be usedunder medical advice: 1 tablet after the first loose bowel movement and ½ tablet after each subsequent loose bowel movement, up to a maximum of 3 tablets (for ages 9-11 years) or maximum 2 tablets (for ages 6-8 years) per day, for no longer than 2 days.
• The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Constipation
• Nausea
• Dizziness

Less common side effects may include:

• Abdominal pain or distension
• Vomiting
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue

Rare but serious side effects can include allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing), paralytic ileus, and toxic megacolon. If you experience any serious side effects, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.

Precautions: Lopesim is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age. It should also not be used in patients with:

• Known hypersensitivity to loperamide, simethicone, or any excipients.
• Acute dysentery, characterized by blood in stools and high fever.  
• Acute ulcerative colitis.  
• Bacterial enterocolitis causedby Salmonella, Shigella, or Campylobacter.
• Pseudomembranous colitis associated with antibiotic use.
• Conditions where inhibition of peristalsis should be avoided due to the risk of significant sequelae including ileus, megacolon and toxicmegacolon.

Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment as it could lead to CNS toxicity. Discontinue use if constipation, abdominal pain or distension develops. Patients with AIDS treated with loperamide for infectious colitis should discontinue treatment promptly if abdominal distension occurs. Loperamide should be used with caution in children aged 6 to 11 years due to the potential for central nervous system effects.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
