Indications
Lorix cream treats scabies and crab lice (pediculosis) infestations. All household members should be treated simultaneously if one person is infected.

Pharmacology
Permethrin (a pyrethroid) paralyzes Sarcoptes scabiei by disrupting nerve signal transmission in parasites. Topical application results in minimal systemic absorption (<0.5% within 48 hours). Absorbed permethrin undergoes rapid metabolism and urinary excretion.

Dosage

• Adults/Children >12 yrs: 1 full tube

• Children 6–12 yrs: Up to ½ tube

• Children 1–5 yrs: Up to ¼ tube

• Infants 2 mos–1 yr: Up to ⅛ tube

• Infants <2 mos: Safety not established

Administration

1. Apply to clean, cool, dry skin (avoid pre-application baths).

2. Cover all skin surfaces:

   • ≥2 yrs: Neck to soles (include fingers/toes, under nails)

   • <2 yrs: Add face/neck/scalp (avoid eyes/mouth)

3. Leave on for 8 hours; reapply if washed off.

4. Wash off thoroughly after treatment.

5. Repeat after 7 days if directed.

Interaction
Avoid corticosteroids before treatment (may worsen infestation by suppressing immune response).

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to permethrin or pyrethroids.

Side Effects
Transient burning, stinging, erythema, itching, or rash at application sites.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Use only if medically advised during pregnancy. Avoid while breastfeeding.

Precautions

• May temporarily worsen itching/redness.

• Avoid eye contact; rinse immediately if exposed.

• Caregivers: Wear gloves during application.
