Indications

Lorix Plus lotion is indicated for the treatment of scabies and pruritus. It is also used to relieve itching and skin irritation from conditions such as:

• Sunburn
• Dry eczema
• Itchy dermatitis
• Allergic rashes
• Hives, nettle rash
• Chickenpox
• Insect bites and stings
• Heat rashes
• Personal itching

Pharmacology

This lotion contains a combination of Permethrin and Crotamiton.

• Permethrin: A synthetic pyrethroid with broad insecticidal activity. It works by affecting sodium channels in the nervous system of insects and mites, causing sensory hyperexcitability and paralysis.
• Crotamiton: Used to treat scabies and to relieve itching in various skin conditions. Less than 0.5% of permethrin is absorbed systemically and is rapidly metabolized. Crotamiton also penetrates the skin, with low but measurable plasma concentrations.

Dosage & Administration

• Scabies Treatment Procedure:
  • Adults (including the elderly): After a warm bath and drying the skin, rub the lotion into the entire body surface (excluding the face and scalp) until it's no longer visible. Repeat once daily, preferably in the evening, for 3-5 days. Pay special attention to areas like between fingers and toes, wrists, armpits, and genitals.
  • Children: Follow the same procedure as adults. For children under 2 years, do not apply more than once a day.
• Itching Relief: Before applying, ensure the skin is clean, cool, and dry.
  • Adults and Children over 2 years: Apply to the whole body from the neck down, rubbing lightly until it disappears. Include all skin surfaces, even between fingers and toes.
  • Babies under 2 years: Apply to the face, neck, ears, and scalp as well, avoiding the immediate area around the eyes and mouth.
• General: Leave the lotion on for at least 8 hours before washing it off. Reapply if any treated area is washed during this time. Patients over 2 months of age can use the lotion.

Interaction

Treating eczematous reactions with corticosteroids before using this lotion should be avoided, as it may worsen the scabies infestation by reducing the immune response.

Contraindications

This lotion is contraindicated in individuals with a known allergy to permethrin, its components, or other pyrethroids or pyrethrins.

Side Effects

In patients with scabies, a burning, stinging, or tingling sensation may occur after application. Other transient signs of irritation like redness, swelling, and rash are generally considered part of the natural history of scabies.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no data on the safety of this lotion in pregnancy, so it is not recommended, especially during the first three months. It is not known whether the active substance passes into breast milk. Nursing mothers should avoid applying it to the nipple area.

Precautions & Warnings

Nursing staff who apply the lotion routinely should wear gloves to prevent skin irritation. Avoid contact with the eyes, and if the lotion gets into the eye, rinse with water immediately.

Overdose Effects

There are no reports of overdose with this lotion. Excessive application may result in localized adverse reactions or more severe skin reactions.

Therapeutic Class

Lorix Plus is a local antipruritic and parasiticidal preparation.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store in a dry place, below 25°C, and protected from light.
