Maacal-DX Tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (from eggshell source) 1500mg equivalent to 600mg of elemental Calcium and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 400 IU.  

Uses:

Maacal-DX is used for the treatment and prevention of conditions related to calcium and vitamin D deficiency, such as:

• Bone loss (osteoporosis)  
• Weak bones (osteomalacia, osteopenia)  
• Rickets  
• Decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism)  
• Latent tetany (certain muscle disease)  

It may also be used to ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D3 intake in conditions like:

• Pregnancy and lactation  
• Post-menopausal osteoporosis
• Senile osteoporosis
• Osteoporosis induced by certain drugs (like Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, or Prednisolone)

Dosage:

The usual dosage is one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by the physician. Use in children and adolescents should be directed by a physician.

Contraindications:

Maacal-DX is contraindicated in individuals with:

• Hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) and hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid gland)  
• Hypercalciuria (high calcium levels in the urine) and nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)  
• Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation
• Severe renal insufficiency  
• Concomitant digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of serum calcium levels)  

Side Effects:

Common side effects are generally mild and may include gastrointestinal irritation and constipation, although eggshell calcium is reported to be less likely to cause these issues.  

Rare side effects may include:

• Kidney stones  
• Hypercalcemia
• Alkalosis (excessive blood alkalinity)  
• Loss of appetite  

Precautions:

• When hypercalcemia occurs, discontinuation of the drug is required.  
• Patients with a history of kidney stone formation should be recommended to increase their fluid intake.  
• Use during pregnancy and lactation should be as directed by a physician.
• Care should be taken when taking with other medications that can interact with calcium and vitamin D3 (see below).

Drug Interactions:

Maacal-DX can interact with several medications, including:

• Digoxin  
• Antacids containing calcium, aluminum, or magnesium  
• Other calcium supplements  
• Calcitriol  
• Tetracycline, doxycycline, aminocycline, or oxytetracycline antibiotics.  
• The intestinal uptake of calcium may be reduced by concomitant ingestion of certain foods (e.g., spinach, milk and milk products).
