Mecol 0.5 is a tablet containing 0.5 mg (500 micrograms) of Mecobalamin. Mecobalamin is an active form of Vitamin B12.

Indications:

Mecol is indicated for the treatment of peripheral neuropathies, such as:

• Diabetic neuropathy
• Alcoholic neuropathy
• Drug-induced neuropathy
• Lumbago
• Entrapment neuropathy
• Intercostal neuralgia
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Other neuropathies

It is also sometimes used in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia due to Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Dosage and Administration:

The usual dosage for adults is one 0.5 mg tablet three times a day (total 1.5 mg of Mecobalamin daily), after meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's age and the severity of symptoms, as directed by a physician.

Side Effects:

Mecobalamin is generally well-tolerated. However, some infrequent side effects may include:

• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Other gastrointestinal discomfort

In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions like skin rash may occur.

Precautions:

• Mecol should not be used for months if there is no noticeable response after a certain period of time.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergy to Mecobalamin or other components of the formulation.
• The prolonged use of larger doses is not recommended for patients whose occupation requires handling mercury or mercury compounds.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using this medicine.
