Medroxy 5

Presentation:Tablets containing 5 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate.Various strengths may be available; refer to the packaging for the specific strength.

Indications:Medroxyprogesterone acetate is a synthetic progestin indicated for various conditions including:  

• Secondary amenorrhea.  
• Abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance.  
• Endometrial hyperplasia.  
• As a component of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women with a uterus to oppose the effects of estrogen on the endometrium.

The specific indication and dosage depend on the condition being treated.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and depends on the indication.

• Secondary amenorrhea:Usual dose is 5-10 mg daily for 5-10 days. 
• Abnormal uterine bleeding:Usual dose is 5-10 mg daily for 5-10 days, or as directed. 
• Endometrial hyperplasia: Dosage varies, typically higher doses for extended periods.
• Hormone Replacement Therapy: Dosage and schedule depend on the estrogen regimen. Typically 5-10 mg daily for a portion of the estrogen cycle.

Administer orally. Follow physician's specific instructions.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include headache, nausea, breast tenderness, changes in menstrual bleeding patterns, weight gain, fluid retention, and mood changes.Less common but potentially serious side effects include thromboembolic disorders (blood clots), liver dysfunction, and allergic reactions.  

Precautions:Use with caution in patients with a history of thromboembolic disorders, liver disease, depression, or epilepsy.May affect glucose tolerance in diabetic patients.Not recommended during pregnancy. Use during breastfeeding should be considered carefully. A thorough medical history and physical examination should be conducted prior to initiating therapy.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
