Presentation: Tablets containing 3 mg of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Melato 3 tablets are for oral administration. The appearance of the tablets may vary depending on the manufacturer and what is available in Bangladesh.
Indications: Melato 3 is indicated for the short-term treatment of jet lag in adults. It may also be used for insomnia, particularly in individuals with disrupted circadian rhythms (e.g., due to jet lag, shift work, or poor vision) or low melatonin levels (such as some elderly individuals). It may also be used in children with learning disabilities who suffer from insomnia, but such use should be under strict medical supervision.
Dosage and Administration: The standard dose for jet lag in adults is 3 mg (one tablet) daily for a maximum of 5 days. The first dose should be taken on arrival at the destination at the habitual bedtime. It should not be taken before 20:00 hr or after 04:00 hr at the destination. For insomnia, the typical adult dose is 3-6 mg one hour before bedtime. The dosage and duration of treatment should be as recommended by a physician. Melato 3 tablets should be swallowed whole with fluid and are best taken without food, as food can affect absorption. Alcohol consumption should be avoided when taking melatonin.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, nausea, and daytime drowsiness. Less common side effects can include vivid dreams, nightmares, short-term feelings of depression, irritability, stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, and bedwetting in children. Due to the potential for drowsiness, caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery within five hours of taking Melato 3.
Precautions: Melato 3 should not be used by patients with autoimmune diseases. Caution should be exercised in individuals with epilepsy, as melatonin may increase seizure frequency. It may also affect blood glucose control in individuals with diabetes. Melatonin can interact with certain medications, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, and blood thinners. Consult a healthcare professional before using Melato 3 if you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking other medications. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to a lack of sufficient safety data.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
