Melpred 

Presentation: Melpred is a brand name for tablets containing Methylprednisolone BP. The strength per tablet can vary (e.g., 4 mg, 8 mg, 16 mg). The packaging will specify the exact strength. Available in strips.

Indications: Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory and allergic conditions, including allergic disorders, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic disorders, skin diseases, endocrine disorders, respiratory diseases, hematologic disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, nervous system disorders, ophthalmic diseases, renal diseases, certain neoplastic diseases, and multiple sclerosis exacerbations. The specific indication and dosage depend on the condition and patient response.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage varies widely depending on the condition, severity, and patient response. The physician will prescribe the appropriate strength and number of tablets. Usually administered orally in single or divided doses, often with food to minimize stomach upset. Do not stop abruptly, especially after long-term use; dosage should be gradually reduced under medical supervision.

Side Effects: Common: increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, difficulty sleeping, increased sweating, indigestion. Long-term use may lead to osteoporosis, increased risk of infections, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, cataracts, muscle weakness, and Cushing's syndrome.

Precautions: Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections and hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or other corticosteroids. Use with caution in diabetes mellitus, hypertension, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, and psychiatric disorders. Inform doctor of any infections or recent exposure to chickenpox or measles. Avoid live vaccinations. Long-term use in children may affect growth. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding under strict medical supervision.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
