Indications

Menogia tablet is indicated for:

  • Metropathia Haemorrhagica (Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding).

  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).

  • Postponement of menstruation.

  • Endometriosis.

  • Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding).


 

Pharmacology

Norethisterone is a progestational drug with actions similar to Progesterone, but it is a more potent inhibitor of ovulation. It also possesses weak estrogenic and androgenic properties. It is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and its effects last for at least 24 hours.


 

Dosage & Administration

This drug is for oral administration and is not intended for use in children.

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding

1 tablet 3 times daily.For 10 days.

Prophylaxis (Recurrence)

1 tablet twice daily.From day 19 to day 26 of the cycle.

Premenstrual Syndrome

2–3 tablets daily.From day 19 to day 26 of the cycle, repeated for several cycles.

Postponement of Menstruation

1 tablet 3 times daily.Starting 3 days before the expected onset of menstruation.

Endometriosis

2 tablets daily initially, increasing to 4–5 tablets if spotting occurs.Continuous treatment for 4–6 months or longer.

Menorrhagia

1 tablet 2–3 times a day.From day 19 to day 26 of the cycle.

 

Contraindications & Warnings

 

Contraindications

Do not take Menogia if you have:

  • Pregnancy.

  • Severe disturbances of liver function (including Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndromes).

  • Previous or existing liver tumours.

  • History of idiopathic jaundice, severe pruritus, or herpes gestationis during pregnancy.

  • Current thromboembolic processes (blood clots).

  • Hypersensitivity to Norethisterone or any other excipient.

 

Reasons to Stop Immediately

Discontinue Menogia and seek immediate medical attention if any of the following occur:

  • New onset of migrainous headaches or unusually severe, frequent headaches.

  • Sudden perceptual disorders (e.g., vision or hearing disturbances).

  • First signs of thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic symptoms (e.g., pain and tightness in the chest).

  • Pending operations (six weeks beforehand) or immobilisation (e.g., after accidents).

  • Onset of jaundice or hepatitis.

  • Significant rise in blood pressure.

  • Pregnancy.

 

Precautions & Warnings

  • Thromboembolic Risk: Although Menogia does not contain estrogen, the possibility of an increased risk of blood clots (venous/arterial thromboembolism) should be kept in mind, particularly with a history of thromboembolic disease, severe diabetes with vascular changes, or sickle-cell anaemia.

  • Liver Tumours: In rare cases, liver tumours (benign or malignant) have been observed. Severe upper abdominal pain or signs of intra-abdominal bleeding require immediate investigation.

  • Diabetes: Norethisterone can influence carbohydrate metabolism. Diabetics must have their carbohydrate metabolism parameters carefully examined before and regularly during treatment.
