Mensil N contains Norethisterone, a synthetic progestin with progestational actions similar to progesterone. It is used to treat various menstrual cycle disorders and related conditions. It is indicated for dysfunctional uterine bleeding (metropathia haemorrhagica), premenstrual syndrome, menorrhagia, postponement of menstruation, and endometriosis. Mensil N belongs to the therapeutic class of female sex hormones and oral contraceptive preparations.

How Mensil N Works (Pharmacology)

Norethisterone's mechanism of action is based on its progestational properties:

• Inhibits Ovulation: It is a potent inhibitor of ovulation.
• Acts like Progesterone: It mimics the actions of the natural hormone progesterone.
• Weak Estrogenic and Androgenic Properties: It also has some weak estrogenic and androgenic properties.
• Excretion: It is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and its effects last for at least 24 hours. It is excreted in the urine.

Dosage & Administration

• Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding: 1 tablet three times daily for 10 days.
• Premenstrual Syndrome: 2-3 tablets daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the cycle.

• Endometriosis: Long-term treatment starting with 2 tablets daily and adjusting the dose as needed.
• Menorrhagia: 1 tablet two to three times a day from the 19th to the 26th day of the cycle.

Contraindications:

• Pregnancy.

• Liver Tumors: In rare cases, benign or malignant liver tumors have been observed with similar hormonal substances.
• Carbohydrate Metabolism: Norethisterone can influence carbohydrate metabolism, so diabetic patients should have their parameters carefully monitored.
• Reasons to Stop Immediately: If new symptoms appear, such as migraine, sudden visual or hearing disturbances, signs of thromboembolism, severe abdominal pain, jaundice, a significant rise in blood pressure, or if pregnancy is suspected.

Drug Interactions:

• The therapeutic efficacy may be decreased when taken with hepatic enzyme-inducing drugs, such as phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, and rifampicin.

Overdose Effects

• There have been no reports of overdose.
• Treatment is generally unnecessary and should be symptomatic.
