Methigic 8

Presentation: Tablets containing 8 mg methylprednisolone.

Indications: Methylprednisolone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, is indicated for a wide range of conditions where its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects are desired. These include allergic states, rheumatic disorders, endocrine disorders, dermatologic diseases, respiratory diseases, hematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, edematous states, gastrointestinal diseases, nervous system conditions,ophthalmic diseases, renal diseases, and other inflammatory conditions. The specific indication and dosage depend on the nature and severity of the condition being treated.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly variable and individualized according to the specific disease, its severity, and the patient's response. Initial dosages may range from 4 to 48 mg per day, or even higher in some cases. Maintenance doses are usually lower. May be administered orally, usually as a single daily dose or in divided doses. Follow physician's specific instructions. Gradual withdrawal is usually recommended following prolonged therapy to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, elevated blood pressure, mood changes, insomnia, acne, increased hair growth, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, impaired wound healing, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, increased intraocular pressure, cataracts, hyperglycemia, and increased susceptibility to infections. The likelihood and severity of side effects generally increase with higher doses and longer duration of treatment.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychiatric disorders, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart failure, renal insufficiency, epilepsy, tuberculosis, ocular herpes simplex, and systemic fungal infections. Live or live-attenuated vaccines should generally not be administered to patients on immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids. Methylprednisolone can interact with other medications. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered, weighing the potential benefits against the risks to the fetus or infant.  

Storage:   Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
